Databricks Champion - Platform Solution Architect

At NN Group, we are scaling our Data & AI platforms to enable advanced analytics, AI, and data-driven decision-making across all Business Units. As a Databricks Champion – Platform Solution Architect, you will play a key role in driving the adoption of new Databricks services while ensuring compliance with NN policies, architecture standards, and regulatory requirements.

You will operate at the intersection of platform engineering, architecture, and governance, translating new Databricks capabilities into secure, reusable, and enterprise-ready platform services.

Your impact

• Enable safe and scalable adoption of new Databricks capabilities across NN
• Ensure all implementations meet NN security, risk, and governance standards
• Define reference architectures and standards for platform services
• Act as a trusted advisor to platform teams, architects, and Business Units

This is a freelance assignment for 36 hours per week until the end of 2026.

What you are going to do 

Platform Architecture & Enablement

• Define and evolve reference architectures for Databricks services (Unity Catalog, MosaicAI, Serverless, Lakebase etc.)
• Translate new features into enterprise-grade platform capabilities
• Provide guidance and support to teams implementing solutions on Databricks
• Promote reuse through templates, standards, and best practices

Service Assessment & Onboarding

• Assess new Databricks services against:
  • NN architecture standards
  • Security and compliance requirements
  • Operational readiness
• Define onboarding guidelines, guardrails, and adoption patterns
• Work with vendors (e.g. Databricks) to align capabilities with NN needs

Governance, Risk & Compliance

• Ensure platform services comply with NN policies on:
  • Identity & access management
  • Data governance (e.g. Unity Catalog, metadata, lineage)
  • Security, audit, and monitoring
• Embed governance-by-design in all services
• Translate regulatory requirements into technical implementations

Implementation & Standardization

• Support or lead implementation of new platform capabilities
• Define configurations and policies for workspaces, environments, and data access
• Drive automation using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines
• Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and multi-cloud strategies

Who you are 

• 7+ years of experience in Data Platform / Cloud / Solution Architecture
• Proven experience with Databricks platform in enterprise environments
• Experience working in regulated environments (financial services is a plus)
• Strong knowledge of Databricks (Unity Catalog, MLflow, Delta Lake, governance)
• Databricks Champion (Certified Architect)
• Cloud experience (Azure and/or AWS)
• Experience with:
  • Data governance and metadata management
  • Security and access control models
  • CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code
• Understanding of large-scale data platform architectures
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to translate policy and governance into technical solutions
• Coaching mindset with focus on enablement and adoption
• Experience with AI/ML platforms and governance
• Experience in a Center of Excellence or platform enablement function

Who you will work with

You will work closely with the Data & AI department. You will enable domain teams by providing reliable platforms, clear standards, and hands-on support. 

You will collaborate closely with: Data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists across the organization, other platform and infrastructure teams, architecture, security, and governance stakeholders.
